Zombie Army 4: Dead War

Zombie Army 4: Dead War feels largely familiar amid the horde of Left 4 Dead-style co-op shooters, but it isn’t without its clever mechanical touches and spins on the oldest of video game cliches: killing Nazi zombies. Between its varied and campy story campaign and an amusing horde mode, there are plenty of opportunities for harrowing teamwork and gory, disgusting X-ray kills. The weapon progression system doesn’t give a lot of reasons to branch out, though, so the pull of its replayability isn’t as strong as it could be.

Zombie Army 4 is the reanimated corpse of gaming’s past, stitched together from the best bits of Sniper Elite. It’s a B-movie pastiche stuffed with classic movie references and thousands of heads (and bollocks) to pop. But most importantly, it’s a new game. A new, fairly-enjoyable video game in 2020 – what a concept.

An excellently-crafted shooter, especially with friends. Just don’t expect much in the way of brains.

In its self-aware campiness and macabre action, there is a contagious confidence in Zombie Army 4 that will leave anyone who plays it a fan of this exciting co-op shooter.

It's surprising to think that, especially in 2020, a game featuring third-person Nazi zombie shooting could be as entertaining as Zombie Army 4: Dead War ends up being, but it's a good kind of surprise, and it's because of all the little touches. Multiple character types, weapons, and unlockable perks mean the game has tons of replay value for players to engage in after finishing the main campaign, and an online horde mode ensures additional hours of enjoyment with friends or strangers.

Zombie Army 4: Dead War doesn't take itself too seriously and that proves to be a perfect remedy to all the po-faced, hardcore shooters we've encountered recently. It is great fun in both solo and co-op play, and provides more than a giggle along the way.

Its enemies might be mindless but while it’s very one note the gameplay in Zombie Army 4 offers some surprisingly engrossing co-operative action.

Zombie Army 4: Dead War is a frantic arcade shooter that is a little one-note, but has enough variance in zombie types, gorgeous environments and a robust co-operative experience to make it an enjoyable experience.
